Volkswagen Invades Geneva With Up! Concepts

While we usually look to the SEMA Show in Vegas every fall to see some of our favorite cars get the aftermarket parts treatment, Volkswagen arrived at the 2012 Geneva Motor show with four super-fun concept cars that they're calling 'Up!'

The cars, the Swiss Up!, Winter Up!, X Up! and Cargo Up!, likely aren't heading for the production line, but they're an interesting look at all of the ways Volkswagen has envisioned a use for their vehicles.

The Swiss Up! is a concept with the show's home country in mind. It's designed with a Swiss Army knife in mind, with Tornado Red exterior paint, white mirror housings, a white dash, and air vents set in red bezels. Need a place to store your pocket knife? VW added a leather strap around the back of each front seat to provide the perfect place to stash yours.

The Winter Up!  is Pure White and Malibu blue with snowboards on the roof. The X Up! is similar, but gets a roof box with built-in searchlights for "nighttime expeditions," according to Volkswagen.

Finally the Cargo Up! has...well, plenty of cargo room. The rear seats have been removed to give the driver the most space possible, and a Plexiglas partition keeps the cargo safely in the back of the vehicle.

Of course, you might be wondering which car Volkswagen used to create all of these fun design studies. It's the Up!, a car that debuted in Frankfurt last year. It's small enough for the city, but fun to drive and full of features. Or, as VW says, it's "A small car full of great ideas!"1

Will these small cars make their way to the United States? Hard to tell, but we certainly hope so. They're a lot of fun and they're Volkswagens, so we know they'll be fun to drive, safe, and efficient, too. Be sure to stay tuned with us, Fletcher Jones Volkswagen, 1111 N Clark St Chicago, IL 60610 to learn more about this and other innovative new concepts from Volkswagen.
