Here at Fletcher Jones Volkswagen, we enjoy learning about the newest concept cars floating around at auto shows around the globe. We know that although some of these cars never make it to production, they carve a place in the industry for new ideas and innovations. Often concept cars provide styling ideas that are spurred into production and express a company's image for many years. Volkswagen plans to show off two very special vehicles at the Detroit Auto show in January 2012. One is a completely "pure concept" electric vehicle- not based on any current production vehicle from the company. The other is a hybrid version of the popular Volkswagen Jetta.
The new electric vehicle will have similar styling to the Volkswagen Beetle, but will not be chiefly based on the Beetle. Volkswagen has previously displayed a small electric car, named E-Up, as a concept car, beginning at the Frankfurt show in 2009. The company hasn't yet commented on how the new electric car and the E-Up will differ. The concept Jetta Hybrid will directly challenge the Toyota Prius market. Powered by an electric motor and a 1.4-liter, turbocharged gasoline engine, the Jetta should be available in showrooms like ours here at Fletcher Jones Volkswagen by November 2012. It will be shown in Detroit to bolster interest before it hits the market.
We hope to see both of these vehicles soon at Fletcher Jones Volkswagen. In the meantime, stay tuned with us here to learn about new models, concepts, and VW news. Interested in a new Volkswagen? Stop by and see us at 1111 N Clark St, Chicago, IL, or contact us for more information.
